Facility That Remained Idle for Years Reopened After Renovation by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality held the opening ceremony of the İçmeler In-Service Training Facility, which was renovated in the Kızılbük area of Marmaris İçmeler Neighborhood, on July 1st, Maritime and Cabotage Day. Built on an allocated area of approximately 30,000 square meters, the facility will serve with a structure combining training, sports, and social life. The opening was attended by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Tayfun Yılmaz, Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü, Marmaris Chamber of Commerce President Mutlu Ayhan, Marmaris Chamber of Maritime Commerce President Halil Bağlı, Aksaz Shipyard Commander Admiral Cemalettin Çiftçi, political party representatives, NGO representatives, and many citizens.

Training Era in Water Sports

The facility will operate not only as an in-service training center but also as an important center contributing to the development of water sports. Training in sailing and various water sports branches will be organized at the facility. Especially children, young people, disabled individuals, and elderly citizens will be introduced to water sports. It is aimed that the facility, opened by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, will host national and international water sports events.

Tetik: "Approximately 40 Million Lira Investment Completed"

Münevver Tetik, Head of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Study and Projects Department, who gave the opening speech and detailed the renovation works at the facility,

“Within the scope of an investment costing approximately 40 million liras, we completed new buildings, landscaping, and infrastructure work in the area. After long-lasting legal and administrative processes, the area definitively allocated to our organization was transformed into a modern life and education center that will serve the public interest. Existing entrance control building was maintained and repaired, and four new buildings were constructed. The investment included not only the buildings but also landscaping covering the entire facility. To ensure accessibility for the disabled, platforms, ramps, and stairs were built, while structural and botanical landscaping, parking, environmental lighting, generator and transformer systems, as well as drinking water and rainwater tanks were put into service.” she stated.

Mayor Ünlü: "I Thank President Ahmet Who Brought This Facility to Our Marmaris"

Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü emphasized that Marmaris has significant potential in nature and water sports and said the facility is an important gain, especially for children and youth.

Mayor Ünlü said,

“Marmaris is gaining a very beautiful facility. Our city is an important center where nature sports can be practiced. Many of our children will receive education and engage in sports and social activities at this facility. Our Metropolitan Municipality has prepared this facility excellently. I wish for the successful athletes of the future to be trained here. It is especially meaningful to hold the opening on such a significant day. I thank everyone involved, especially Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras.” he said.

Secretary General Yılmaz: "We Will Continue Our Work Resolutely to Ensure Stronger Participation of Our Citizens in Social Life"

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Tayfun Yılmaz, noting that Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras could not attend the ceremony due to an international program, conveyed the Mayor's greetings to the participants.

Secretary General Yılmaz said,

“We are happy to officially open our facility, which began construction about a year and a half ago, today on the 100th anniversary of Maritime and Cabotage Day. As the Metropolitan Municipality, we continue to support the equal participation of disadvantaged individuals and all citizens in social life through investments in culture, art, and sports. Recently, national team swimming trials have also been held at this facility. We believe the facility, which aims to benefit approximately 10,000 Muğla residents annually, will make significant contributions to both the development of sports and social life.”

Regarding ongoing investments in Marmaris, Secretary General Yılmaz added,

“Since taking office, our Mayor Mr. Ahmet Aras has acted with the philosophy of making investments in every area where our citizens need it, without distinction between metropolitan and smaller towns. Besides basic municipal services, we will continue our efforts resolutely to ensure our citizens' stronger participation in social life through investments in culture, art, and sports.”

District Governor Kaya: "We Work in Cooperation"

Marmaris District Governor Nurullah Kaya stated that Muğla is one of Turkey's most important tourism centers and that all institutions work together to carry Marmaris's values into the future.

Governor Kaya said,

“Our Metropolitan Municipality, district municipalities, our institutions under the district governorship, and our Naval Forces act jointly to provide the best service to our city. Our municipalities carry out important work for the sustainability of social life. When I started my duty, there was an idle building here. Our Metropolitan Municipality made this area usable and enabled it to host national team selections. Our Metropolitan Municipality, the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, our federation, and district governorship brought this exemplary facility to life in cooperation, meeting the qualifications requested by the federation. I thank Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras, who brought this facility to Marmaris.”

At the end of the program, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place, while jet ski shows provided a visual feast for the participants. The program concluded with folk dances.
