Ministry of Health issues hot weather warning! Pay attention to water consumption and nutrition in summer

The Ministry of Health warned citizens about the adverse effects of increased heat and humidity during the summer months on human health. The statement emphasized that ensuring adequate fluid intake, balanced nutrition, and adherence to food safety rules are of great importance for health in hot weather.

In its statement, the Ministry noted that body temperature increases during summer months due to rising heat and humidity, and the metabolism tries to adapt to this situation.

It was stated that excessive sweating may cause fluid and mineral loss, which can lead to health problems such as fainting sensation, dizziness, and nausea.

It was reminded that those with chronic diseases, individuals aged 65 and over, children, pregnant women, and those working outdoors are more affected by hot weather.

DAILY WATER CONSUMPTION SHOULD NOT BE NEGLECTED

The Ministry recommended drinking water regularly throughout the day without waiting to feel thirsty.

The statement indicated that the daily water requirement is approximately 35 milliliters per kilogram of body weight, and an average adult should consume about 2.5 to 3 liters of water per day.

It was advised to prefer drinks such as semi-skimmed milk, ayran, and fruit juice instead of tea, coffee, and carbonated beverages in meeting fluid needs.

It was emphasized that people who exercise need to replace the fluids lost through sweating by drinking enough water.

SUGGESTION FOR LIGHT NUTRITION

It was stated that the nutrition regimen should be planned according to hot weather conditions during summer, recommending emphasis on low-fat cheese, olives, and fresh vegetables for breakfast.

Instead of caffeinated drinks, it was advised to prefer milk, fruit juice, and herbal teas such as linden and rosehip.

While it was pointed out to avoid fatty foods, fried dishes, and pastries as much as possible, it was expressed that meals prepared by boiling, grilling, or cooking in little water are more appropriate.

Also, increasing fruit and vegetable consumption and preferring fiber-rich foods such as whole wheat bread, bulgur, and oats were recommended.

For dessert consumption, it was advised to choose milk-based desserts, fruit desserts, and ice cream instead of heavy syrupy sweets.

FOOD SAFETY WARNING

The Ministry drew attention to the more frequent occurrence of food poisoning during summer months.

Therefore, it was stated that foods sold openly should not be consumed, and perishable foods such as meat, milk, eggs, and fish should be stored under appropriate conditions.

It was expressed that adherence to hygiene rules during food preparation, storage, and cooking plays an important role in preventing foodborne diseases.

PRECAUTIONS AGAINST HEATSTROKE

The statement emphasized that to protect against excessive heat, one should prefer loose, light, and light-colored clothing, take lukewarm showers when necessary, and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms of heatstroke are felt.
