Applied for the First Time in Muğla: 4 Centimeter Stone Cleared
A patient with a kidney stone approximately 4 centimeters in size at Muğla Training and Research Hospital recovered in a single session with the ECIRS method applied for the first time in the city.
Muğla Training and Research Hospital has made an important operation in advanced kidney stone surgery. A patient with a stone approximately 4 centimeters in size in the kidney was treated with the Endoscopic Combined Intrarenal Surgery (ECIRS) method, applied for the first time in Muğla.
In the operation performed by the Department of Urology, closed kidney stone surgery was performed simultaneously through both the skin and the natural urinary tract. It was reported that thanks to the minimally invasive method, which can be applied at a limited number of centers worldwide and in Turkey, the stone in the kidney was completely cleared in a single session.
Simultaneous intervention from two different paths
The operation was carried out under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Hasan Deliktaş, Head of the Department of Urology, by Dr. Lecturer Uğur Aydın and Dr. Lecturer Engin Dereköylü.
The patient's anesthesia process was conducted by Assoc. Dr. Eylem Yaşar and the Anesthesiology and Reanimation Clinic team.

“Increases success in large and complex stones”
Prof. Dr. Hasan Deliktaş, commenting on the operation, said that the ECIRS method is an advanced surgical technique that requires two surgeons to work simultaneously and in coordination in the treatment of upper urinary system stones.
Deliktaş stated that the method offers a high success rate especially in the treatment of large and complex kidney stones and added:
“Thanks to ECIRS, patients recover faster, the risk of complications decreases, and the treatment success significantly increases. Our clinic successfully applies this method by combining its technological infrastructure with surgical experience and teamwork.”
