Muğla makes a mark on the vacation agenda: Bodrum at the top, Marmaris and Fethiye close behind

The balance in Turkey's vacation agenda has changed. According to MTM research, while Bodrum does not give up the top spot to anyone, Marmaris and Fethiye also climbing to higher ranks has made Muğla the most talked-about holiday destination of the summer season.

According to the research conducted by MTM Media Monitoring Center covering the period from May 15 to June 15, 2026, Muğla left a mark on Turkey's vacation agenda. Bodrum topped the list both in domestic and foreign sources with over 213 thousand media and social media reflections, while Marmaris and Fethiye also ranked among the most talked-about destinations on the list.

Muğla took the center stage of the vacation agenda

With the summer season picking up pace in Turkey, competition among holiday destinations was not limited to hotel occupancy, prices, and visitor numbers. Media and social media visibility have also become one of the most important indicators determining the popularity of holiday regions.

The research conducted by MTM Media Monitoring Center between May 15 and June 15, 2026, once again revealed Muğla's strength in tourism. More than 943 thousand contents produced across over 10 thousand media and social media sources about 33 of Turkey's prominent holiday destinations were examined. According to the research, holiday centers in Muğla accounted for approximately 40% of total reflections, making it the most talked-about holiday region in Turkey.

Bodrum did not give up the top spot

The most notable result of the research came from Bodrum. Bodrum ranked first on the list with over 213 thousand media and social media reflections. Bodrum alone accounted for 23% of the overall vacation agenda, holding the lead in both Turkey-based and foreign content.

This result showed that Bodrum is one of the strongest destinations not only in Turkey but also in the international holiday agenda. Standing out with luxury tourism, nightlife, marina culture, blue cruise routes, and world-renowned bays, Bodrum reached the peak of social media and news agenda before the summer season began.

Marmaris

Marmaris and Fethiye also in the top ranks

Muğla's strength in tourism was not limited to Bodrum alone. Marmaris and Fethiye also ranked high among the most talked-about holiday destinations in the study. In Turkey-based media and social media reflections, after Bodrum, Alanya, Marmaris, and Fethiye followed.

In foreign media, the picture was even more remarkable for Muğla. While Bodrum was again in the first place, Marmaris rose to the second spot. Fethiye, along with Kaş, found a place among the top five destinations in foreign content.

This picture revealed that the coasts of Muğla have a strong presence not only among local holidaymakers but also in social media and media agendas among foreign tourists.

4 out of every 10 holiday contents are from Muğla

In terms of province-based distribution, Muğla was the clear leader. With Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye, and other tourism centers, Muğla destinations accounted for about 40% of total reflections. Antalya ranked second with 25%, while İzmir had 15%, Aydın 10%, and Balıkesir 6% shares.

In foreign content, the combined share of Muğla and Antalya exceeded 88%, drawing attention. This data showed that Turkey's international holiday perception is largely shaped around the coasts of Muğla and Antalya destinations.

Aegean leads, Mediterranean rising in foreign media

According to the research, the Aegean Region maintained its leadership in both Turkey and foreign media reflections. However, the visibility of Mediterranean destinations in foreign sources increased notably.

Mediterranean destinations constituted 25% of Turkey-based reflections and raised their share to 39% among foreign media. Thus, the Mediterranean's share in the foreign media agenda was 14.5 points higher compared to the Turkish media agenda.

Despite this, looking at the overall picture, it was observed that Muğla played a decisive role in the vacation agenda of both the Aegean and Turkey with strong brands like Bodrum, Marmaris, and Fethiye.

Social media drives the vacation agenda

MTM data revealed that over 70% of total reflections related to holiday destinations were produced on social media. This situation showed that social media shares, user experiences, photo and video contents now have as much impact as news on vacation preferences.

Especially visually strong destinations like Bodrum, Marmaris, and Fethiye reached larger audiences through social media users' shares, strengthening Muğla's impact in the digital holiday showcase.

Muğla started the summer season powerfully

The research results once again highlighted Muğla's brand value in tourism before the 2026 summer season. Bodrum's leadership, Marmaris' strong rise in foreign media, and Fethiye's top rankings showed that Muğla continues to be one of Turkey's most attractive routes for both domestic and foreign vacationers.

According to media and social media data, Muğla remains at the center of the vacation agenda this year as well. While Bodrum maintains its top spot, the strong performance of Marmaris and Fethiye has made Muğla the most talked-about holiday province in Turkey.
