Marmaris Unites for DMD Patient Siraç
A comprehensive solidarity campaign is being launched in Marmaris to enable 11-year-old Muhammed Siraç Gündür, who suffers from DMD, to access treatment. Marmaris Municipality is expanding support efforts to complete the governorate-approved aid campaign.
Marmaris unites for 11-year-old Muhammed Siraç Gündür, who is battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). To accelerate the governorate-approved aid campaign aimed at helping Siraç hold on to life and access treatment, Marmaris Municipality has launched a broad support initiative.
Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü stated at the July meeting of the Municipal Council that the solidarity previously shown for SMA patients Ayaz and Zehra babies will now be demonstrated for Siraç, calling on all of Marmaris for support.
Municipal Staff Did Not Remain Indifferent
Mayor Ünlü expressed that they launched a campaign led by the municipality to support Siraç's treatment, adding that council members, deputy mayors, directors, and municipal staff also made donations.
Mayor Ünlü said, “As Marmaris, we have demonstrated the best examples of unity, togetherness, and solidarity. Marmaris played a significant role in enabling two babies to access treatment. Now it is time to show the same unity and togetherness for our child Siraç. We will not leave him and his family alone in this struggle.”
100 Thousand TL Support from Mayor Ünlü
Mayor Acar Ünlü mentioned that he donated 100 thousand TL and the CHP Municipal Group donated 160 thousand TL at the start of the campaign, stating that they aim to reach a significant amount with donations from municipal staff as well.
Ünlü said that the campaign will continue intensely until the required funds are collected and noted that a donation stand was initially set up at 19 Mayıs Youth Square. He added that the campaign will reach broader audiences with various awareness events.
“Marmaris Will Do Its Part”
Speaking at the meeting where Muhammed Siraç’s father Mehmet Gündür was also present, Mayor Ünlü emphasized the importance of the campaign.
Ünlü said, “This is not just a donation campaign; it is a struggle to claim the future of a child. I believe Marmaris will again do its part. I invite everyone who can contribute, regardless of the amount, to join this journey of hope. If we unite, we can ensure that Siraç obtains his medicine together.”
Time Is Critically Important for Treatment
Nurettin Gençalioğlu Anatolian High School teacher Sevil Kotanoğlu’s 11-year-old son Muhammed Siraç needs to access the Elevidys gene therapy to be applied in Dubai, which requires approximately 2.9 million dollars in treatment costs.
The family shared that due to the progression of the disease, time is critically important for treatment. Therefore, the campaign aims to be completed as soon as possible so that the treatment process can begin.
