Gümüşhan: “Fethiye Museum Must Be Opened As Soon As Possible”

Reactions continue to the fact that Fethiye Museum has not been opened for 3 years. Ramazan Sıtkı Gümüşhan, one of Fethiye's well-known tourism professionals and a member of the Fethiye Chamber of Commerce and Industry Assembly, also reacted, saying, “We need the support of all authorities, especially our ministry, in order to protect Fethiye's history and culture and contribute to its tourism.”

OUR TREASURE LEFT TO DECAY, FETHIYE MUSEUM MUST BE OPENED ASAP

“The fact that the Fethiye Museum, one of the leading tourism assets of Fethiye and our region, has been closed for about 3 years upsets everyone involved.” said Gümüşhan, “Containing unique artifacts from the Lycian, Carian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman civilizations; this important cultural treasure, which local and foreign tourists always want to see during their visits to Fethiye, has been kept closed to visitors for 3 years due to the reason of being "not earthquake resistant.”

In a tourism city hosting millions of tourists every year, the closure of the largest museum that tells the region's history and cultural heritage harms both Fethiye and the country's tourism. Guests who visit the museum unaware that it is closed or hoping to possibly see it return disappointed, deprived of the museum where they could see many valuable artifacts.

It is essential for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Muğla Governorship, and Fethiye District Governorship to inform the public on this matter and to either reinforce the Fethiye Museum as soon as possible or build a more comprehensive new one and reopen it to visitors.

“We need the support of all authorities, especially our ministry, in order to protect Fethiye's history and culture and contribute to its tourism.” he said.
