Legionella Training from GETOB and Muğla Provincial Health Directorate

The South Aegean Touristic Hoteliers and Operators Association (GETOB), continuing its educational efforts aimed at protecting public health in tourism facilities, organizes a Legionella Course in cooperation with the Muğla Provincial Health Directorate.

The training program, to be held at the Marmaris Municipality Multi-Purpose Hall, will start at 09:30 on Friday, June 26. The training will be provided by doctors and expert trainers from the Marmaris District Health Directorate.

It Holds Great Importance for Hotels

Legionella disease is known as a serious lung infection caused by the Legionella pneumophila bacteria, commonly referred to by the public as pneumonia.

The bacteria can multiply under suitable conditions in air conditioning systems, shower heads, jacuzzis, ventilation systems, and water installations. The disease, which is transmitted by inhaling water droplets contaminated with the bacteria, can pose a life-threatening risk especially for elderly people and those with weakened immune systems.

Trained Personnel Required by Regulation

According to the "Regulation on Control Procedures and Principles of Legionnaires' Disease," prepared by the Ministry of Health and published in the Official Gazette on May 13, 2015, accommodation facilities must have at least one staff member trained on legionella.

According to the regulation, personnel who are at least high school graduates and successfully complete at least 8 hours of training organized by the Provincial Health Directorate can be assigned to this duty in the facilities.

Participation Is Mandatory

In a statement by GETOB, it was emphasized that the training will be provided by expert doctors and trainers from the Marmaris District Health Directorate and that participation is important.

It was stated that businesses wishing to attend the course or members who will assign staff must register through the application system of the Muğla Provincial Health Directorate.

At the end of the course, participants will receive a participation certificate after paying the fee into the account of the Provincial Health Directorate.

Prioritizing Health and Safety in Tourism

GETOB officials pointed out the great importance of protecting guest health in tourism facilities, stating that such trainings will contribute both to fulfilling legal obligations and strengthening the understanding of safe tourism.
