Maritime tourism in Fethiye has entered a new phase: A new touch to the shores
Day-use pier investments planned along the coastline, especially in Gökgemile Bay in Fethiye, aim to strengthen the maritime tourism infrastructure and make boat traffic more orderly. Projects exceeding hundreds of millions in total will bring new capacity to regional tourism.
A new investment for maritime tourism is being implemented in Fethiye, one of Muğla's important tourism centers.
Within the scope of the project planned by ALB Tur. İnş. Tic. Ltd. Şti., a day-use boat mooring pier will be constructed in the Karagözler Neighborhood Gökgemile Bay area. With an investment cost of 91,655,400 TL, the project is located within the Fethiye-Göcek Special Environmental Protection Zone boundaries.
New maritime tourism infrastructure in Gökgemile Bay
The planned pier will be built on the seaward side of the coastal edge line, in the area under the government's jurisdiction and disposal. The project is designed to integrate with the Gökgemile Point Day-Use Area located in the backfield, aiming to provide safer access to the shore for visitors and to increase service quality.
Private system with a capacity of 25 boats
A mooring pier with a total capacity of 25 boats will be constructed as part of the project. It was reported that this capacity is planned for 10 boats of 12 meters and 15 boats of 15 meters in length.
It was stated that part of the pier structure will be a wooden-looking floating system, while the other part will be a pile-fixed construction.
Not a marina, but a day-use area
The project will not include any marina or long-term boat accommodation services. The pier will only be used for boats arriving day-use for passenger embarkation and disembarkation, short-term waiting, and bay visits.
Area use and technical details
In the project, where a total area of 7,394.22 square meters will be used, 1,570.82 square meters will be planned as pier and access road, while 5,823.40 square meters will be evaluated as boat maneuvering and passage area.
Land connection and parking needs will be met via the Gökgemile Point Day-Use Area located in the backfield.
Close location to Fethiye
The project area is located about 5 kilometers southwest of Fethiye district center and about 1.2 kilometers west of Karagözler Neighborhood. It is stated that the area is surrounded by dense forest areas and that there are day-use areas, tourist facilities, and boat maintenance activities around it.
New capacity goal for maritime tourism
With the new pier investment, it is aimed to provide safe mooring opportunities for day-use tour boats coming to Gökgemile Bay and to strengthen the maritime tourism infrastructure in the region.
Environmental sensitivity and planning process
The project, located within the Fethiye-Göcek Special Environmental Protection Zone, was planned with the preservation of the natural structure as a priority. It aims to minimize environmental impacts and make coastal use more orderly.
Expectation of contribution to the regional economy
The project to be implemented in Gökgemile Bay, which receives intense visits especially during the summer season, is expected to contribute not only to maritime tourism but also to the region's food and beverage businesses and the general tourism economy.
Three major pier projects in Fethiye are under EIA process
Meanwhile, an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process has been initiated for three separate boat mooring pier projects covering Gökgemile and surrounding bays in Fethiye.
It was reported that the total investment size of the projects planned within the borders of Karagözler and Kaya neighborhoods reaches approximately 210 million liras.
The largest capacity is in Kaya Neighborhood
Among the projects, it was stated that the investment with the highest capacity is planned by Vianka Tourism and Construction Inc. in the Darboğaz area of Kaya Neighborhood. Approximately 100 boat capacity pier system will be installed in this project.
It was noted that this capacity is nearly twice the combined capacity of the other two projects.
25-boat capacity in other projects
In the other project planned by Tepe Marine Tur. Yat. İnş. Tic. Ltd. Şti. in Oyuktepe Bay, Karagözler Neighborhood, a pier with a capacity of 25 boats will also be built, and the area is about 6,299 square meters.
It was conveyed that in this project, floating and pile systems will also be used together.
Environmental permit processes continue
Since the projects are located within the Fethiye-Göcek Special Environmental Protection Zone and partly a natural site area, it was stated that opinions of relevant institutions will be received during the EIA process, and ecological structures and marine habitats will be evaluated in detail.
The final decision will be made by the ministry
The projects will receive a final decision at the end of the process conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. After the decision, it will become clear whether the investments will be realized.
New era in tourism
Considering the intense yacht and boat traffic especially in summer in the region, it is expressed that the planned investments could start a new era in maritime tourism, while environmental organizations and local people are closely following the process.
