Bodrum Tourism Maintains Its Resilience Despite the Global Crisis

Despite global economic fluctuations, regional wars, and contraction in the European market, Bodrum continued its activity in the 2026 tourism season. In the first 6 months of the year, 416,691 foreign tourists arrived in the district by sea and air.

Despite the negative impacts of global economic developments and regional wars on the tourism sector, Bodrum, one of Turkey's leading tourism centers, maintained its intensity in the 2026 season.

During the January-June period, 296,215 foreign tourists entered the district from the Milas-Bodrum Airport International Terminal. With 120,476 visitors arriving from Bodrum ports, the number of foreign tourists reaching the district by sea and air reached 416,691.

Compared to the same period last year, when the number of foreign tourists was 428,471, there was a decrease of 11,780 people, equivalent to 2.75% this year.

The Population of Bodrum Has Reached Approximately 800 Thousand

In Bodrum, where tourism activity reached one of the busiest levels of the season in July, the hotel occupancy rate rose to around 80%.

With domestic and foreign tourists arriving by air, land, and sea, as well as second home owners visiting Bodrum, it is estimated that the total population in the district has reached approximately 800,000.

Beaches, bays, marinas, restaurants, and entertainment centers experienced heavy crowds, especially in the evening hours, long vehicle queues formed in the district center.

"Bodrum Is One of the Least Affected Destinations"

Ömer Faruk Dengiz, President of the Bodrum Hoteliers Association, said that the decline in the number of foreign tourists should not be assessed as a solely negative picture.

Stating that the tourism season started under the shadow of global developments, Dengiz said the following:

"The late school closures, economic slowdown in Europe, high inflation, tensions on the Iran-Israel-USA front, and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war directly affected the tourism sector. We foresaw this situation at the beginning of the year. Nevertheless, Bodrum became one of the least affected destinations from tourism across Turkey. A 2.75% decline is certainly not a success, but considering the current conditions, we believe that we showed significant resilience."

Accommodation Durations Shortened

Noting that there wasn’t a significant loss in hotel occupancy rates, Dengiz pointed out that the most important change compared to last year was the shortening of tourists' accommodation durations.

Dengiz stated that the majority of flights were fully booked, additional flights were arranged upon demand, and that foreign tourists arriving via connecting flights also made a significant contribution to Bodrum’s visitor numbers.

Target of 180 Thousand Cruise Passengers

Stating that activity in cruise tourism continued as well, Dengiz reported that 120,476 foreign visitors entered Bodrum ports in the first 6 months of the year.

Emphasizing that July data is not yet included in these figures, Dengiz said they expect the number of cruise passengers to reach around 180,000 by the end of the month.

Dengiz stated that Bodrum also sees high demand in domestic tourism and added, "We have at least three, if not four, important months ahead. Bodrum has never been empty, and it will not be empty from now on. We will work harder, improve our service quality, and complete the season with strong figures."
