New decision for in-car phone holders and cameras
Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi provided information about the new regulation made in the Highway Traffic Regulation.
Minister Çiftçi, sharing via his social media account, stated, "We have implemented another regulation that facilitates the daily lives of our citizens, clarifies issues that have caused doubts for a long time in the public, and is based on traffic safety. With the new regulation, we determine the usage limits of in-vehicle technology and equipment with clear, understandable, and objective criteria, preventing discrepancies in practice and misinformation."
Çiftçi noted that in-vehicle accessories that do not obstruct the driver's view will not be within the scope of the ban, saying, "Phone holders mounted on the windshield, vehicle cameras, and devices within the specified limits can be used provided they do not block the driver's field of vision. Thus, doubts regarding the use of navigation and vehicle cameras will be eliminated. Fragrances and similar accessories will not be banned as long as they do not block the driver's field of vision and do not jeopardize driving safety. No penalties will be applied to factory-installed screens and screens used for navigation, parking assistance, in-vehicle and external cameras, recording devices, and system settings."
Regarding sound systems, Minister Çiftçi stated, "The use of sound systems, subwoofers, and amplifiers conforming to the specified technical standards will be allowed. As long as the sound does not extend outside the vehicle and disturb public peace, no penalties will be imposed solely for the presence of a sound system in the vehicle. For actions related to sound systems, it is necessary to concretely determine and record that the sound extends outside the vehicle and disturbs the environment's peace."
Emphasizing that they will continue to work without compromising traffic safety, Çiftçi said, "Individual audio and visual devices placed on seats or suitable areas inside buses and minibuses for passengers' use will continue to be allowed. We will maintain an approach that clarifies the rules, ensures uniformity in practice, protects the rights of our drivers, and never compromises traffic safety."
