Intense Interest in Watermelons Produced at Dalaman Prison in Fethiye
Nazmi Zorbaş, who sells melons and watermelons at the Fethiye Foça Neighborhood Public Market, stated that sales have increased with the tourism activity and that watermelons produced at Dalaman Prison are receiving intense interest.
At the public market established in Foça Neighborhood, belonging to Fethiye district of Muğla, watermelon and melon stalls, the indispensable fruits of the summer season, attract the attention of citizens. Nazmi Zorbaş, who has been trading melons and watermelons for many years, expressed that sales have picked up with the revival of the tourism season.
Stating that the intensity in tourism is increasing day by day, Zorbaş said, “Tourism has developed a bit more, increased a bit more. It is growing day by day. Hopefully, Fethiye will be even better.”
Zorbaş indicated that they sell according to the needs of the citizens, offering watermelons whole, half, and quarter portions. He said, “For a family of two, we give a quarter, for larger families half or whole watermelon. Everyone buys as much as they need.”
Zorbaş stated that the watermelon season lasts long in Fethiye and continues until December. He mentioned that the watermelons on his stall are produced at Dalaman Prison, saying, “The watermelons we are selling now are produced by the prisoners of Dalaman Prison, they are quality and tasty watermelons.”
Providing information about the current prices at the market, Zorbaş said that the price per kilogram of seeded watermelons is 20 TL, and seedless watermelons are sold at 30 TL per kilogram, adding, “Our seedless watermelons are as sweet as honey.”
