Yörük-Turkmen heritage will be kept alive in Muğla for two days
The 17th International Yörük-Turkmen Festival, organized this year by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, will be held on June 6-7 at the Düzeyn Area in the Menteşe district.
The 17th International Yörük-Turkmen Festival, organized this year by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, will be held on June 6-7 at the Düzeyn Area in the Menteşe district.
The Yörük-Turkmen Festival, hosted by Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Aras, aims to keep the Yörük-Turkmen culture alive, transfer it to future generations, and promote it. The festival will feature a variety of colorful events over two days.
This year’s theme: Food and Drink Tradition in Nomadic Culture
The main theme of this year’s festival, determined in cooperation with Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University’s Yörük Turkmen History and Culture Application and Research Center, is 'From Hearth to Oven, From Milk to Porridge: Food and Drink Tradition in Nomadic Culture'. Within this theme, the kitchen culture, production methods, and traditional nutrition habits of nomadic life will be explained through various activities.
Academics will discuss Yörük culture
The program will start on the first day of the events, Saturday, June 6, at 12:00 from Devetaşı Area to the Festival Field with the traditional Yörük Migration, reviving one of the most important symbols of Yörük culture, the migration tradition. At 17:00, a panel will be held moderated by Dr. Faculty Member Aslı Çandırlı, Director of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University’s Yörük Culture Center. The excitement of the festival will peak with the lighting of the Yörük Fire at 20:00 to close the day.
Sümer Ezgü and beloved names of Folk Music will perform
The events will continue throughout the day on Sunday, June 7. The program features performances by Sümer Ezgü, one of the beloved names in Turkish folk music, as well as memorable moments provided by İsmail Uzunoğlu, Nurcan Altınok, Sabri Özdemir, and Yasin Akkaya.

Chairman of the Coastal Municipalities Union and Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras invited all citizens to the Yörük-Turkmen Festival, saying, "The Yörük-Turkmen culture, which has lived on these lands for centuries, is one of Muğla's most important values.
