Within the scope of the 17th International Yörük Türkmen Toyu events held this year in Muğla, a symbolic Yörük migration was reenacted to promote Yörük culture.
Organized by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality and Muğla Yörük Obaları Association, the two-day event began with participants gathering at the Yılanlı Devetaşı location in the Menteşe district and migrating to the Düzeyn Plateau. Yörüks walking with bulls, horses, donkeys, camels, and goats attracted attention with their colorful costumes.
Traditional items used by Yörüks in daily life and elements of their traditional living culture were displayed in the tents set up at the area.
Representatives and dance groups from Yörük Türkmen Associations participated in the festival from both Turkey and abroad.
After the symbolic migration ended on the plateau, guests had a fun time occasionally joining in folk dances.
Orhan Akcan, President of the Muğla Yörük Obaları Association, stated that they aim to best convey and keep the Yörük culture alive through the festival they have organized for 17 years.
Akcan emphasized that the Yörüks come from a culture that protects its nature, ancestors, and flag.
Akcan also mentioned they will light the Yörük fire as part of the festival and that there will be cultural activities and concerts tomorrow.
Ahmet Aras, Mayor of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, described the Yörük Türkmen culture as one of Muğla's most important values and invited citizens to the continuing events tomorrow.
