Yakup Otgöz: 'There Is No Politics in the Fire, We Must Protect Our Forests Together'

AK Party Muğla Deputy Yakup Otgöz conducted inspections in the area of the forest fire that occurred in Fethiye's Yeşilüzümlü Neighborhood and made statements about the ongoing efforts.

Otgöz noted that the fire was brought under control during the night but reignited due to strong winds at noon, adding that the fire was brought under control again with intensive intervention by the teams.

"Fire is under control, cooling efforts continue"

Providing information on the latest status of the fire in Yeşilüzümlü, Otgöz said that cooling efforts are ongoing without interruption, stating:
"The fire which started around 2:00 a.m. in Yeşilüzümlü was brought under control. However, it reignited around 2:30 p.m. today due to strong winds. Thank God, it is currently under control. Cooling efforts in the area continue."

"Our forests are the greatest heritage we will leave to our children"

Emphasizing that protecting forests is a shared responsibility, Otgöz drew attention to the fact that most fires are caused by human negligence.

He called on citizens to be more careful, stating, "Our forests are our national treasure, our future, and the greatest heritage we will leave to our children. Even a cigarette butt can destroy our future. Therefore, we all must be much more careful."

"Our forestry organization is racing against time"

Otgöz stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the General Directorate of Forestry are making intense efforts to further shorten the response time to fires and highlighted that the initial response teams reach the scene very quickly.

He stressed that the most important factor in preventing fires is the awareness of citizens, saying, "Our teams arrive at fire reports within minutes. But the most important thing is that the fire never starts. We all have a great responsibility in this regard."

"There is no politics in fire; here, there is unity and solidarity"

Noting that all institutions and citizens act jointly in combating the fire, Otgöz said that a great example of solidarity is demonstrated in the region.

He made the following assessment in his statement:

"When a fire breaks out, everyone here becomes one heart. There is no politics in this. Unity and solidarity emerge in times like these. Our citizens, public institutions, and volunteers act with a great spirit of mobilization. Our Governorate, AFAD, our municipalities, General Directorate of Forestry, Regional Directorate of Forestry, and all our teams are showing great dedication in the field."

Thanking all institutions and citizens who supported the firefighting efforts, Otgöz noted that the people of Yeşilüzümlü displayed exemplary solidarity.

Otgöz said, "First of all, I thank our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Forestry, Regional Directorate of Forestry, AFAD, our municipalities, and all citizens in Yeşilüzümlü. Get well soon to all of us. Our greatest wish is that such fires never happen again."
