Governor Akbıyık Announced: "4 Houses Burned in the Fire, 600 People Evacuated"
Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık announced that more than 600 people were evacuated from 6 neighborhoods in Seydikemer due to the fire, and 4 houses were burned.
Muğla Governor Dr. İdris Akbıyık conducted inspections in the forest fire area continuing in Seydikemer district. Receiving information from officials about the efforts, Governor Akbıyık said that approximately 300 households in 6 neighborhoods were evacuated and over 600 citizens were temporarily relocated due to the fire.
The fire, which started in an agricultural area for reasons yet unknown around 07:45 in Bayır Neighborhood of Seydikemer district, spread to forested areas under the influence of strong winds.
Upon notification, the Muğla Regional Forestry Directorate and Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department teams were dispatched to the area. Air and ground interventions were initiated to control the fire spreading over a wide area due to the wind.
23 aircraft and 923 personnel are on duty
After inspections in the fire area, Governor Akbıyık told the press that the flames spread quickly due to high temperatures, low humidity, and strong wind.
Akbıyık stated, "There is very strong wind, the air temperature is very high, and humidity is below 20 percent. Therefore, the fire spread very quickly. We convened our Coordination Center in Muğla within the framework of the Turkey Disaster Response Plan. We dispatched all vehicles of our municipalities and public institutions, especially vehicles of the General Directorate of Forestry, to the area. We are intervening in the fire with 23 aerial units, 272 ground units, and 923 personnel."
Evacuation decision taken in 6 neighborhoods
Governor Akbıyık stated that the fire affected a wide area and the wind continuously changed direction, and an evacuation was carried out for the safety of the citizens.
Akbıyık said, "The fire covers a very wide area. The wind continuously changes direction. Therefore, we temporarily evacuated over 600 citizens living in approximately 300 households in 6 of our neighborhoods."
45 patients in the hospital transferred to Fethiye
Due to the fire approaching the Seydikemer district center, Governor Akbıyık said that Seydikemer State Hospital was evacuated as a precaution, and 45 patients in the hospital were transferred by ambulances to Fethiye State Hospital.
It was reported that the Seydikemer-Antalya highway was temporarily closed to traffic to prevent interruptions in firefighting efforts and to ensure traffic safety.
4 houses damaged by the fire
Akbıyık stated that there were no casualties in the fire and expressed great sadness over the harm caused to wildlife in the forested area.
Governor Akbıyık said, "Thank God, we have no loss of life. However, we lost many lives in the forest; animals, insects... We are sad. Four houses burned in the fire. Among them, 3 are structures in ruins, and one is a normal house that was in use."
4 out of 5 fires in Muğla are under control
Governor Akbıyık announced that 5 separate forest fires occurred throughout Muğla during the day, and 4 of them are under control.
He noted that the fire in Seydikemer has lost some intensity in certain areas but continues in different locations, saying, "Our aerial and ground fight continues. We wish a speedy recovery to all citizens of Seydikemer, our Muğla, and our country."
