Governor Akbıyık: "July 15 Will Never Be Forgotten"

Muğla Governor Dr. İdris Akbıyık, on the 10th anniversary of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day, stated in his message, “The treacherous coup attempt of July 15 will never be forgotten, nor will it be made to be forgotten. The will is ours, the victory is ours.”

Muğla Governor Dr. İdris Akbıyık issued a message on the 10th anniversary of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization's July 15, 2016 coup attempt.

Governor Akbıyık stated that the attempt targeting the freedom of the Turkish nation, the survival of the state, and sacred values was thwarted by the courage and determination of the nation.

“The Dark Night Turned Into a Bright Morning”

Emphasizing that the Turkish nation has always rejected captivity, Akbıyık included the following in his message:

“We are the children of a noble nation that rejects captivity, breaks chains, and lives by the motto ‘Either Independence or Death.’ The unwavering spirit that challenged tanks with faith on the night of July 15 and shielded its courage with bombs is precisely the spirit that made Çanakkale impregnable. Our nation, filling the squares at the call of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, turned a dark night into a bright morning with faith and courage.”

“Marmaris Was One of the Toughest Strongholds of Resistance”

Noting that Marmaris was a crucial point in the coup attempt, Akbıyık stated that security forces put up a great fight against the assassination attempt on President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Akbıyık said, “Our Marmaris became the toughest fortress of resistance, determination, and courage against betrayal on that dark night. Our heroes formed an unshakable wall, united as one, against the treacherous assassination team that directly targeted the nation’s will embodied by our President.”

He Commemorated Martyrs Eker and Çetin

Governor Akbıyık also remembered with mercy and gratitude police officers Nedip Cengiz Eker and Mehmet Çetin who were martyred in Marmaris on the night of July 15.

Akbıyık said, “Our martyrs, brothers Nedip Cengiz Eker and Mehmet Çetin, who made the soil of our Muğla sacred, drank the martyrdom potion and inscribed their names on the heroic pages of history. Our most sacred duty is to eternally protect these lands watered with their blood, our independence, and our national will.”

“Never Forgotten, Never Let Be Forgotten”

Offering God’s mercy to the martyrs and gratitude to the veterans, Akbıyık concluded his message as follows:

“I extend my heartfelt thanks to my fellow citizens from Muğla who keep the spirit of July 15 alive and stand firmly by our state and our glorious nation, as well as to all our citizens. The treacherous coup attempt of July 15 will never be forgotten, nor will it be made to be forgotten. May our national unity and brotherhood last forever. Every July 15, we will shout once more: The will is ours, the victory is ours.”
