Up to 52% decrease in incidents of violence, threats, and insults in traffic
In public order incidents such as intentional injury, threats, and insults occurring in traffic, a 51.6% decrease was recorded compared to the same period last year.
The Law No. 7574 Amending the Highway Traffic Law, which increases the deterrence of sanctions against traffic violations, was published in the Official Gazette and entered into force on February 27, 2026.
With the regulation, it was stipulated that drivers who persistently follow another vehicle with the intent to attack on the road or get out of the vehicle for this purpose shall be subjected to an administrative fine of 180 thousand liras, vehicles shall be banned from traffic for 30 days, and driver's licenses shall be revoked for 60 days.
Inspections were intensified to increase the effectiveness of the legal regulation in the field. It was learned that Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi prioritized the issue among the Ministry's agenda following public broadcasts of images of traffic violence, and gave instructions for rapid intervention in such incidents.
Following increased inspections and deterrent sanctions, the number of incidents recorded in the police responsibility area between February 27 and July 28, 2025, was 4,806, which fell to 2,328 in the same period this year.
Thus, the number of these incidents decreased by 2,478, representing a 51.6% decline compared to the same period last year.
It was learned that inspections targeting aggressive behavior that endangers the safety of drivers and passengers in traffic will continue uninterrupted across 81 provinces.
