Fethiye's memory revived with historical photographs
The second "Fethiye Nostalgia Days" event was held at the Fethiye Municipality Culture House and Book Museum.
In the event presented by Dr. Ceyhun İrgil, a former member of parliament and founder of the Fethiye Municipality Culture House and Book Museum; historical photographs and visuals of Fethiye were shared. Participants had a conversation about Fethiye's historical background.
The program, which remembered many elements from Fethiye's social life from past to present, its values on the verge of disappearing, to its cultural texture, received intense interest. Fethiye is a historical city and has hosted many civilizations. As one of the important cities of the Lycian civilization, Fethiye became a center of culture and trade.


During the event; it was emphasized that the historical structure of Fethiye, which is now a brand city in tourism, should be preserved.
The event, which received intense interest, was attended by one of the city's first tourism professionals Fatin Ergen, journalist and author Işık Taban who wrote books and research articles about Fethiye and Kayaköy, 4th generation operator of the Historical Kandiye Photography Studio Şükrü Gürel, former members of parliament Nurettin Demir and Ömer Süha Aldan, journalist Mine Kırıkkanat, well-known former city figures Atilla Olgun, Mustafa Şıkman, Kamil Oral, author Şahsene Camız, Cevat Abalı, Fetav Director Dilek Dinçer, Kadir Tezel, Meral Karaören, Ayşen Gürbüz, Hayat and Mesut Şaröz, former teachers of the city, representatives of non-governmental organizations, citizens and guests.


The event, conducted in an intimate conversation atmosphere, was presented by former MP and medical doctor from Fethiye, Ceyhun İrgil; who shared old historical photographs of Fethiye that had not come to light before. In his speech, Ceyhun İrgil stated that many unknown events took place in Fethiye's history. Mentioning many incidents during World War I and the War of Independence, İrgil also expressed that Fethiye has a historical city plan and that the city was established based on this foundation.
Ceyhun İrgil said that Fethiye was an important trade center in the past and noted the presence of consulate buildings. İrgil, who stated that they are working to document Fethiye's urban memory, said the "Fethiye Nostalgia Days" programs will continue.
