Support from Volunteers for Seydikemer Fire
While the teams continue to intervene in the fire in Seydikemer that has been ongoing for more than 10 hours, volunteers also supported the extinguishing efforts.
In Muğla's Seydikemer district, the fire that started in the morning hours and spread to the forested area due to strong winds is being continuously tackled both from the air and on the ground. Volunteers who want to protect the green homeland have also come to the fire zone to support the teams.
According to the information obtained, a fire broke out in an agricultural area around 07:45 in Bayır Neighborhood of Seydikemer district for an as yet unknown reason. The flames, which grew rapidly due to strong winds, spread to the surrounding forest area.
Following the notification, teams from the Muğla Forestry Regional Directorate and Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department were dispatched to the area. Extensive aerial and ground operations were launched to bring the fire under control.
Teams are trying to stop the flames
The teams racing against time are trying to bring the fire under control, which has continued to have an effect for more than 10 hours.
According to the latest data shared by the Muğla Governorship, a total of 25 aerial vehicles, including 5 planes and 20 helicopters, are being used to combat the fire. Ground teams are trying to halt the advance of the flames with water tenders, water tankers, machinery, and riot control vehicles.
A total of 1,012 personnel are assigned to the extinguishing efforts, where the wind, which sometimes intensifies, makes the intervention more difficult for the teams. Despite the flames rising meters high, the teams continue their work and put intense effort into preventing the fire from reaching residential areas.
They came to help for the green homeland
Volunteers who heard about the fire also came to the area to support the teams. Rahman Hüseyin Töngül, who came to Seydikemer with his friends from Fethiye, said they have been at the fire zone for hours.
Töngül said, "We are from Fethiye ourselves. When we heard about the fire in Seydikemer, we came here with our friends to help. We have been here for 3-4 hours."
The support given by voluntary citizens in the fire zone boosted the morale of the teams involved in the extinguishing efforts, and the solidarity shown to protect the green homeland also attracted attention.
Operations to bring the fire under control continue uninterrupted from the air and ground.
