MUSKİ Renovates Drinking Water Lines in Zeytinköy
In Zeytinköy Neighborhood, Menteşe district of Muğla, drinking water lines that have passed through private properties for many years and frequently caused malfunctions are being renewed. With the work initiated by MUSKİ, the lines will be moved to public areas to allow quicker response to malfunctions.
Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (MUSKİ) General Directorate continues its efforts to strengthen the drinking water infrastructure in the Taşcağız area of Zeytinköy Neighborhood, Menteşe district.
As part of the ongoing project, old drinking water lines that have traversed private lands of residents for years are being relocated to the road routes and renewed. This will shorten the response time to malfunctions and reduce water losses.
Lines on private lands caused problems
Due to existing drinking water lines passing through private property in the area, it was difficult for the teams to intervene during malfunctions, agricultural lands were sometimes damaged, and water outages were prolonged. Also, lime deposits in old pipes and insufficient pipe diameters negatively affected the system.
MUSKİ teams will create a more accessible and sustainable infrastructure by moving the new lines to public areas.
Residents are pleased with the work
Mehmet Kurtoğlu, who has lived in Zeytinköy for about 25 years, said that in the past water malfunctions took a long time to detect, and with the new work, malfunctions will be addressed more quickly and water losses will significantly decrease.
Resident Yaşar Uzun stated that the old pipes had both reached their economic lifetime and could not withstand high pressure and said that the new system will reduce leaks and prevent plumbing issues in homes.
Neighborhood headman: Losses and leaks will decrease
Güngör Uzun, the headman of Zeytinköy Neighborhood, also noted that the neighborhood has experienced drinking water problems for many years due to its geographical structure.
Uzun said that with the completion of the new work, malfunctions will be addressed more quickly and water losses and leaks will be significantly reduced.
After MUSKİ’s ongoing work is completed, the drinking water infrastructure in Zeytinköy Neighborhood is expected to become safer, more accessible, and more efficient.
