Muğla's Sustainability Project Reaches the Final in Europe

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality's "Muğla Circular Construction and Demolition Waste Management and Recycling Model" project became a finalist among the most successful sustainability projects in Europe within the scope of the 2026 Local Sustainability Award.

Muğla's environmental vision appreciated in Europe

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, a member of ICLEI, has achieved significant international success with its work on sustainable urbanism, resource efficiency, and circular economy.

Applied under the coordination of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Directorate of Foreign Relations and implemented by the Environmental Protection and Control Directorate, the "Muğla Circular Construction and Demolition Waste Management and Recycling Model" project was among the finalists in the 2026 Local Sustainability Award evaluations.

In the evaluation by an expert jury, the project was recognized as one of Europe's leading sustainability projects for its innovative waste management approach, circular economy perspective, and exemplary applications in reintegrating resources into the economy.

Finalists will be presented in Brussels

The award ceremony for the 2026 Local Sustainability Award will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in Brussels, Belgium, at the European Union Representation of the Basque Region. During the event organized within the scope of European Regions and Cities Week, finalist projects will be introduced to the international public, winning cities will be announced, and new collaborations among ICLEI member cities will be established.

Ahmet Aras, President of the Coastal Municipalities Union and Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, stated that the success achieved reflects Muğla's environmentally focused management approach at the international level.

It is extremely valuable for us that our work, carried out in line with our 'World City Muğla' vision, is recognized internationally as an example. This project, which reached the final, is not just an environmental project; it is a tangible indicator of Muğla's climate-friendly, innovative, and future-planning municipal understanding.
