Critical meeting for the future of the seas in Muğla

Within the scope of Turkey Environment Week, a joint meeting on "Maritime Waste" was held under the coordination of Muğla Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. The meeting organized under the theme "The World Is Entrusted to Us" emphasized the importance of clean seas for a sustainable future.

An important step was taken in Muğla for the protection of the seas, prevention of pollution, and continuation of sustainable aquatic product cultivation and fishing. An evaluation and planning meeting on "Maritime Waste" was organized under the coordination of Muğla Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.

During the meeting, experts made comprehensive presentations about the current status of fishermen's shelters, waste management processes, and maritime waste practices. It was especially stated that inter-institutional coordination should be increased in the processes of proper sorting, storage, and disposal of waste in coastal structures. It was indicated that inspections and implementation of existing legislation would be diligently continued.

A special emphasis was also made on the 1-7 June Turkey Environment Week, celebrated this year under the theme "The World Is Entrusted to Us." Presentations highlighted the vital importance of protecting the blue homeland and marine ecosystem, reminding that fighting marine pollution is a common duty not only of institutions but of all stakeholders and citizens.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a sustainable future emphasis stood out. It was stated that keeping the seas clean is a vital necessity to leave a clean and livable environment for future generations, with the following words: "Our seas are one of Muğla's greatest riches both in terms of biodiversity and economically. Clean seas and a sustainable future are a shared responsibility for all of us. In this regard, we will continue to protect our seas determinedly by maintaining inter-institutional cooperation at the highest level."
