Discussions focused on efforts to reduce disaster risks at the Muğla IRAP meeting. Inter-agency coordination and the preparation process were evaluated.

The Muğla Provincial Risk Reduction Plan (İRAP) High-Level Introduction and Consultation Meeting, aimed at making Muğla more resilient to disasters, was held under the chairmanship of Muğla Governor Dr. İdris Akbıyık. At the meeting, attended by representatives of public institutions, comprehensive evaluations were made on efforts to minimize disaster risks, inter-agency coordination, and preventive measures. The main agenda of the meeting was the measures to be taken and strengthening of planning processes before disasters occur. Officials emphasized the importance of constantly updating the preparation efforts.

Proactive Disaster Management Emerged Under Muğla IRAP

Speaking at the meeting, Muğla Governor Dr. İdris Akbıyık stated that disasters are an inevitable reality not only for Turkey but also for the world. Therefore, he expressed that risk reduction efforts should be prioritized before intervention in disaster management. Akbıyık said that a proactive approach plays a critical role in reducing loss of life and property. Governor Akbıyık emphasized that the main purpose of the Provincial Risk Reduction Plan is to foresee the possible effects of disasters in advance and minimize these effects at the lowest level. Accordingly, he stated that the duties and responsibilities of public institutions are continuously reviewed and that work is ongoing to increase the plan's applicability in the field.

Pre-Disaster Planning and Inter-Agency Coordination Will Be Strengthened

It was highlighted at the meeting that preparations made before disasters directly affect intervention capacity during the disaster. Governor Akbıyık stated that detailed planning before a disaster and the full coordination of all institutions during and after the disaster are of great importance. He noted that existing measures are carefully examined to implement the Muğla Provincial Risk Reduction Plan with maximum efficiency and that institutions’ task sharing, communication mechanisms, and crisis management processes are regularly updated. This aims to ensure faster decision-making and effective intervention in potential disasters.

Spreading Disaster Awareness Across All Segments of Society is Targeted

Another important topic of the meeting was raising public awareness. Governor Akbıyık said that preparedness for disasters is not only the responsibility of public institutions but that all segments of society should contribute to this process.

Highlighting the importance of coordinated action among public institutions, non-governmental organizations, universities, and citizens, Akbıyık expressed that being dynamic and prepared against disasters will significantly reduce the impact of possible crises. It is aimed to further strengthen Muğla's resilience to disasters through spreading disaster culture, increasing educational activities, and making risk reduction efforts sustainable.
