Urgent expropriation decision for 43 parcels in Muğla

An urgent expropriation decision was made for some properties located in the Yatağan and Menteşe districts of Muğla. The Presidential Decision was published in the Official Gazette dated June 20, 2026. According to the decision, the properties needed for the continuation of production in the site licensed for group IV mining operations will be urgently expropriated by the General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs.

In the Presidential Decision No. 11450, it was stated that expropriation of the properties listed in the annex was decided in order to sustain production in the site licensed for group IV mining operations with license number S:62689 within the borders of Muğla province. Within the scope of the decision, the urgent expropriation method will be applied according to article 27 of Expropriation Law No. 2942. The list includes a total of 43 parcels located in the Turgut and Bağyaka neighborhoods of Yatağan district and Bayır Neighborhood of Menteşe district.

Expropriation covers 43 parcels in 3 neighborhoods

According to the decision published in the Official Gazette, the properties covered by urgent expropriation are located in three neighborhoods in the Yatağan and Menteşe districts. Of the total 43 parcels listed, 16 are in Yatağan's Turgut Neighborhood, 20 in Bağyaka Neighborhood, and 7 in Menteşe's Bayır Neighborhood. The neighborhood most affected by the expropriation decision is Bağyaka with 20 parcels, while Turgut Neighborhood has 16, and Bayır Neighborhood has 7 parcels included in the urgent expropriation scope.

Expropriation will be made due to mining production requirement

In the decision published in the Official Gazette, the reason for the expropriation was stated as the continuation of mining production subject to the license. It was stated that the process would be carried out by the General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs. While a significant part of the parcels mentioned in the decision are located in the Turgut and Bağyaka neighborhoods of Yatağan, some properties in Bayır Neighborhood of Menteşe were also included in the list.

Reaction from CHP's Uzun

Republican People's Party (CHP) Muğla Deputy Cumhur Uzun reacted to the decision by criticizing the urgent expropriation application. Uzun claimed that a significant portion of the expropriated parcels are olive groves and argued that the decision would negatively affect producers and living spaces in the region.

In his statement, Uzun noted that the authority for urgent expropriation is envisaged for extraordinary situations and criticized its use for coal mining activities. Emphasizing the need to protect olive groves and agricultural lands in Muğla, Uzun stated that they will continue the legal and political struggle.
