Muğla Governor Akbıyık: “The July 15 treacherous coup attempt will never be forgotten”

Muğla Governor Dr. İdris Akbıyık, in his message on the 10th anniversary of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day, stated that the coup attempt on July 15, 2016 was thwarted by the determined stance of the nation, saying, “The July 15 treacherous coup attempt will never be forgotten nor let be forgotten.”

Governor Akbıyık said in his message, “We proudly commemorate the 10th anniversary of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day, marking the tremendous victory we achieved against the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) and its collaborators. We are the descendants of a noble nation that rejected captivity, broke chains, living by the motto 'Either Independence or Death'. The unwavering spirit that faced tanks with the belief it carried in its chest on the night of July 15, that shielded its courage with bombs; that spirit is exactly what made Çanakkale impregnable.

Our people, who filled the squares upon the call of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, brought a dark night to a bright morning with faith and courage. Our Marmaris became the toughest stronghold of resistance, determination, and courage against betrayal that dark night. Our heroes formed an unshakable wall with one heart against the treacherous assassination team that directly targeted the will of the nation through our President.

In this struggle, our martyrs who sanctified Muğla’s lands; our brothers Nedip Cengiz Eker and Mehmet Çetin drank the martyrdom chalice and inscribed their names into the heroic pages of history. Our most sacred duty is to eternally protect the lands watered with the blood of our martyrs, our independence and our national will. What the treacherous centers have forgotten is this: On these lands that never accept shackles, the will is always ours, the victory is ours. On this meaningful day, I pray for mercy upon our revered martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland and salute our veterans with gratitude and appreciation.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to my fellow Muğla citizens and all our people who keep the spirit of July 15 alive and stand firmly by our state and beloved nation.
