For the First Time, a Woman Wrestling Agha Was Selected at Menteşe Wrestler's Arena with a Record Bid
At the 32nd Menteşe Beşpınar Oil Wrestling held in Muğla's Kavaklıdere district, businessperson Nahide Tunç Çalışkan, who won the agha auction with a record bid of 4 million 48 thousand TL, made history as the organization's first “Lady Agha.”
The 32nd edition of the historic event Menteşe Beşpınar Oil Wrestling held in Muğla this year has been remembered not only for the fierce battles on the wrestling field but also for a historic first in the agha auction.
Kavaklıdere Mayor Mehmet Demir announced on his social media account that a turning point was reached in the history of the tournament. Businessperson Nahide Tunç Çalışkan, who won the fiercely contested agha auction with a record bid of 4 million 48 thousand TL, received the title of the first female wrestling agha in the event's history, becoming the Lady Agha.
A First in History: “Our First Female Wrestling Agha”
Mayor Mehmet Demir expressed his satisfaction with the involvement of a woman in this ancestral sport, stating:
“At the end of the agha auction held for the 32nd Menteşe Beşpınar Oil Wrestling, Nahide Tunç Çalışkan became Lady Agha with a bid of 4,048,000 TL. Thus, for the first time in the history of the Menteşe Beşpınar Oil Wrestling, a woman has won the wrestling agha auction. I wish success to Lady Agha Nahide Tunç Çalışkan, our first female wrestling agha, and her family, and I thank them for the support they have given to our ancestral sport.”

In his post, Mayor Demir also did not forget the former agha who had contributed significantly to the organization in previous terms. Thanking İsmail Tekin, who was the wrestling agha of the 2024 and 2025 tournaments, Demir said, “I extend my gratitude to our Golden Belted Wrestling Agha İsmail Tekin, the wrestler agha of Menteşe Beşpınar Wrestling, for all the material and moral support he has provided to our wrestling events so far.”
