Little child noticed while diving, museum intervened

Photos of remains noticed by a child snorkeling in Milas district of Muğla on the seabed were delivered to Milas Museum Directorate by the family.

The child, vacationing with family in Mandalya Bay, noticed broken objects resembling tile pieces on the seabed while diving with goggles and snorkel.

The child informed his parents and dived again with family to photograph the remains. The obtained images were delivered to Milas Museum Directorate for examination.

In the initial examination by museum experts, the pieces were evaluated to possibly belong to amphoras used in the Ancient Age for carrying olive oil, wine, and various commercial products.

Milas Museum Directorate officials stated that reporting underwater cultural properties without moving or damaging them to authorized institutions is very important for the protection of archaeological heritage.

Officials thanked the child and family for their sensitivity displayed.
