New site decision in Kayaköy! A part of the Lycian Way has been registered

A new protection decision was made by the Muğla Regional Board for the Protection of Cultural Heritage in Kayaköy, one of Fethiye's most popular historical and touristic areas.

With the decision taken by the Board, the site boundaries of Kayaköy-Levissi Ancient City were redefined, and a certain section of the Lycian Way was registered as a 1st-degree archaeological site.

In accordance with the decision numbered 19910 dated April 29, 2026, of the Muğla Regional Board for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, digitization and examination studies carried out at the Kayaköy-Levissi Ancient City located within the borders of Kaya Neighborhood, Fethiye district, have been completed.

In the Board's decision, it was resolved to reorganize the urban site and 2nd and 3rd degree archaeological site boundaries of Kayaköy-Levissi Ancient City according to the prepared map.

A PART OF THE LYCIAN WAY WAS REGISTERED

The decision also states that a resolution was made to register the Lycian Way route, identified at the Mendos and Belen locations, as a 1st-degree archaeological site.

According to the Board's decision, after receiving the necessary opinions from the relevant institutions and organizations regarding the said properties, the Preparation of Transition Period Protection Principles and Usage Conditions and its submission to the Board was also decided.

DECISION ANNOUNCED

With the letter prepared by the Fethiye Museum Directorate, the decision and appendices of the Muğla Regional Board for the Protection of Cultural Heritage were announced at the Kayaköy Neighborhood Headman's Office.

The announcement text reminded that unauthorized interventions in registered site areas are prohibited under the provisions of Law No. 2863 on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Property.
