12-hour motorcycle journey from Istanbul to Datça: ‘This route is worth everything’

Muğla's Datça district draws attention during the Eid al-Adha holiday not only with its sea and bays but also with the routes of motorcycle enthusiasts. Doğukan Yıldırım, a member of the Ducati Istanbul Motorcycle Club, and his father Mehmet Turgay Yıldırım traveled 850 kilometers by motorcycle to reach Datça. Yıldırım said, 'Datça's nature, bays, and Marmaris-Datça bends are more than worth this journey.'

During the Eid al-Adha holiday, Datça, one of Turkey's popular tourism centers, this time hosted the long journey stories of motorcycle enthusiasts. Doğukan Yıldırım, a member of the Ducati Istanbul Motorcycle Club, and his father Mehmet Turgay Yıldırım traveled the 850-kilometer route from Istanbul to Datça by motorcycle to reach the district.

Yıldırım, who stated that they set off on May 23, said that after approximately 12 hours of travel, they arrived in Datça. Yıldırım, who said that they have summer houses in Datça, explained that the region is not just a holiday spot but a special living space for them.

Yıldırım stated that coming to Datça by motorcycle offers a completely different experience and said, “While proceeding on this route, you feel the nature. Throughout the journey, landscapes where green and blue intertwine accompany you. Especially the bends between Marmaris and Datça give great pleasure to those who love to ride motorcycles.”

Yıldırım said that Datça has managed to preserve its natural texture for years: "Compared to many other holiday resorts, it has a calmer and more pristine structure. On one side, the deep blue bays; on the other side, pine forests… We find the same peace every time we come here.”

Yıldırım noted that the most unforgettable thing during the journey was the scent of nature and said, “We felt all the beauty of spring along the road. The scent of flowers and plants accompanied us. That’s why traveling by motorcycle is a very different experience.”

Yıldırım also described some challenging moments during the night hours: "Around 2:00 AM, we felt a bit uneasy on the bends without lighting. We proceeded carefully especially on the roads by the cliffs. Sometimes, stray donkeys can be encountered in the region,” he said.

Summarizing the reason for coming to Datça in one sentence, Yıldırım said, “There is no special reason. We are in love with Datça. We find peace. Its nature, sea, and air are truly enchanting.”

Addressing motorcycle riders, Yıldırım added, “The Marmaris-Datça road is definitely one of the routes that must be experienced. Especially for those who love bends, the Marmaris and Datça bends are almost a paradise. When the scenery, nature, and riding pleasure come together, it results in an unforgettable experience.”
