İncirköy Stands Out with Its Production and Culture

Located about 22 kilometers from Fethiye and at an altitude of 600 meters, İncirköy is among the region's notable rural neighborhoods with its natural structure and production potential. İncirköy Neighborhood Headman Ersoy Özdemir stated that the village particularly stands out with livestock and aromatic plant production and has become a settlement experiencing migration in recent years. Özdemir said, "We are a village with a population of approximately 1,200-1,300. Livestock and aromatic plant production are among the main sources of livelihood for our village. At the same time, we are a neighborhood that attracts significant attention from outside and experiences migration."

"The taste of our black dried fig comes from its nature"

Özdemir noted that one of İncirköy's most important agricultural values is the black dried fig, explaining that the quality of the product comes entirely from natural growing conditions. He said, "Our black dried fig grown in our village holds an important place in the region. The biggest reason is that it is grown without irrigation. Our trees are not watered, nor sprayed. Our figs, grown under entirely natural conditions, make a difference with their taste."
Özdemir also stated that olive production is widely continued in the village and that agricultural production makes an important contribution to the neighborhood's economy.

Keçehane brought a new breath to the village

Emphasizing that the Keçehane, which started operations in İncirköy, is not just a production facility, Özdemir said the project will contribute significantly to the village's promotion, women’s employment, and local economy. He added, "Keçehane has become a very important gain for our village. We both preserve our cultural heritage and create a new working space for our women. I thank Çiğdem Karaca, our President of the Likya Women’s Cooperative, and Alim Karaca, our Mayor of Fethiye, who brought this valuable project to life. I believe that in the process ahead, this facility will achieve much greater success."

Dastar tradition is kept alive by women's labor

Özdemir said that dastar weaving is one of the most important parts of İncirköy's cultural identity and that this tradition is still kept alive by women’s labor today. He explained that especially elderly women have been weaving dastar at home for years and expressed that this cultural heritage has been revitalized with the workshop opened by the Likya Women’s Cooperative. Özdemir said, "The origin of dastar dates back to İncirköy. Today, almost every household of our women over 60-70 years old has a loom. Approximately 12-13 women receive training, produce, and contribute to the family economy at the workshop opened by our cooperative here."

The goal is a growing İncirköy with culture and tourism

Özdemir stated that İncirköy is gaining recognition not only with its production but also through festivals and cultural events organized, mentioning that preparations for the third festival planned for this year are ongoing. Özdemir said, "Thanks to the efforts of the Likya Women’s Cooperative, the promotion of our village has significantly increased. We have completed the second festival. We plan to organize the third in September this year. Our goal is to introduce İncirköy to wider audiences with its production, culture, and tourism."
