With June, both the air and seawater are warming up
According to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, with June, both the air and seawater have started to warm noticeably.
While the seawater temperature in Fethiye, Marmaris, and Datça was around 22 degrees in May, it rose up to 24 degrees in the first week of June. In Bodrum, however, the seawater temperature is still recorded as 22 degrees.
The seawater temperature rose to 26 degrees at Antalya Konyaaltı Beach, and it is 25 degrees in Adana Karataş and İskenderun.
At İzmir Urla Fisherman’s Shelter, it was recorded as 27 degrees.
THEY GAVE A DATE FOR THE INCREASE IN TEMPERATURES
New forecasts published by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts indicated that the El Nino weather event expected this year could be the strongest El Nino recorded so far.
According to the June update from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, sea surface temperatures in the central parts of the equatorial Pacific Ocean, a key area used to measure the severity of El Nino, are expected to rise about 3 degrees Celsius above seasonal norms by the end of the year.
In some scenarios, this increase is projected to exceed 4 degrees Celsius.
WARNING FROM THE UN
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), in its assessment published on June 2, reported that the probability of El Nino conditions developing before September is 80%, and before November is 90%.
