A call from Fethiye to the maritime community: ‘Let's all embrace Cabotage Day’

İMEAK Chamber of Shipping Fethiye Branch President İlkay Tugay made important statements after the program organized for the 100th anniversary of the July 1 Maritime and Cabotage Day. Tugay, who emphasized that the Cabotage Law is one of the most important gains symbolizing the independence of Turkish maritime, stressed that this meaningful day should be celebrated with enthusiasm.

Recalling that with the enactment of the Cabotage Law in 1926, the right to trade in Turkish territorial waters was granted to Turkish citizens, Tugay said, "This law, enacted in the early years of our Republic, is one of the most important guarantees of our economic independence over our seas. If today our maritime merchants can freely trade on our seas, we owe it to the Cabotage Law."

Tugay stated that the celebration program started in the morning with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Atatürk Monument, and as part of the program, a wreath would be laid to the sea in memory of marine martyrs, and various events and entertainments would continue in the later hours of the day.

Addressing all citizens, Tugay said, "We are expecting our maritime community, all citizens who earn their living from the sea, and our public to our celebration events. Cabotage Day is a very special day symbolizing the independence and strength of our maritime sector. Let's all embrace this holiday together and experience the excitement of the 100th anniversary in the best way possible within unity and solidarity."
