Negligence Allegation in the Fire in Fethiye: Neighborhood Residents 'We Had Been Complaining About Sparks for Two Days'

Following the fire that started in a house in Muğla's Fethiye district's Çiftlik Neighborhood and spread to the forested area, neighborhood residents claimed that their reports about the electric lines before the incident were not taken into consideration.

While the fire was being fought from the air and ground, a citizen living in the region shared his claims about the cause of the fire with journalists.

"We had been reporting sparks for two days"

An eyewitness who said he had lived in the neighborhood for about six years claimed that they had been reporting to the electricity distribution company for two days that the electric wires were hitting each other and producing sparks due to the wind.

The citizen alleged that a similar situation occurred last year too and claimed that electric and telephone poles were touching each other.

The eyewitness stated:
"For two days, we have been complaining to the electricity distribution company about the wires hitting each other and producing sparks. Yesterday, sparks fell to the ground. Our animals were scared, we moved our vehicles to a safe area and reported it. The same situation happened today. A report was filed but no one cared about us."

The citizen said he did not personally see the incident when the fire started but his mother and father witnessed sparks coming from the electric wires and alleged that the fire could have started with sparks from power lines at the forest boundary.

"It spread to a house, cylinders exploded"

The neighborhood resident claimed that the flames first spread to the garden and greenhouses, then reached a house and that some cylinders exploded during the incident.

The official authorities have not yet announced the cause of the fire.
