The historic and culturally distinctive Kayaköy Neighborhood of Fethiye hosts a meaningful event every Sunday that highlights women’s labor and solidarity. The Second Hand Market set up at Leaf Garden connects handmade products and usable second-hand items with people, creating an income opportunity for producers and contributing to the recycling culture.
Every week, the market regularly features women’s self-produced textile products, handmade knits, jewelry, home and garden products, books, antiques and collectible pieces, along with many second-hand goods for visitors’ appreciation. Producers have the opportunity to meet consumers directly, while visitors can access quality products at affordable prices.
The market organizers stated that the event is not just a shopping point but an important social project supporting women’s participation in economic life. By reintegrating usable items into the economy, it contributes to sustainable consumption, aims to prevent waste, and raises awareness of recycling.
Among those who set up stands at the market, members of the social solidarity group “Fethiye’s Sister” expressed that they act in solidarity to enable women facing different living conditions to participate in production.
The group members stated that by putting the products they produce up for sale, they both contribute to their family budgets and aim to strengthen women’s economic independence. They emphasized that solidarity grows stronger every day. The group members highlighted the importance of the market by saying, "Every product here has a labor, and every labor has a story. We aim to reach more women through solidarity."
