Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca: “All teams united as one”
Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca made statements regarding the ongoing forest fire in Yeşilüzümlü Neighborhood.
Karaca stated that a fire broke out in the Yeşilüzümlü area around 2:00 AM following the fires in Çiftlik and Seydikemer, and said that the flames reached the Sahil Koru location.
Karaca expressed that teams from the Forestry Directorate, municipalities, private sector machinery and concrete mixers intervened with all possible means. “Currently all Forestry Directorate teams, our municipal teams and private sector machinery are in the field. Our District Governor is also in the area. Everyone has come together as one to extinguish the fire. Our greatest hope is to prevent the fire from advancing towards Fethiye,” he said.
Expressing great sorrow over the disaster, Karaca said, “I hope that such disasters do not happen again. We are losing thousands of living beings, our forests, oxygen and our future. Major fires have previously occurred in Marmaris and Milas. Fethiye is facing such a large fire for the first time. This deeply saddened all of us.”
Mayor Karaca thanked all teams involved in fighting the fire and wished that similar disasters do not happen again.
