Joint meeting for Darboğaz, Gökgemile and Oyuktepe
Various non-governmental organizations and environmental groups come together against the pier projects planned for Darboğaz, Gökgemile and Oyuktepe bays in Fethiye. The legal process, public opinion efforts, and the roadmap to be followed will be evaluated at the meeting.
While discussions continue regarding pier projects planned for Darboğaz, Gökgemile, and Oyuktepe (Küçük and Büyük Boncuklu) bays in Fethiye, civil society organizations working on environmental issues have decided to organize a joint meeting.
The meeting, organized by Fethiye City Council, Fethiye Tourism and Environment Education Foundation (FETDER), TMMOB Chamber of Architects Fethiye Branch, MUÇEP Fethiye, and the Initiative for Public Shores, will take place on Thursday, July 16 at the stairs of Fethiye Municipality Özer Olgun Cultural Center.
LEGAL PROCESS AND ROADMAP WILL BE EVALUATED
At the meeting, it is aimed to evaluate the legal process concerning the pier projects, plan public opinion efforts, strengthen coordination between civil society organizations and volunteers, and bring together volunteer work groups to be formed for the Darboğaz, Gökgemile, and Oyuktepe bays.
"WE MUST PROTECT THE NATURAL HERITAGE TOGETHER"
In a statement by Fethiye City Council regarding the meeting, the following was expressed:
"This struggle is not only about three bays; it is a fight to protect Fethiye's common living spaces, natural heritage, and the coasts we will leave to future generations together. We are waiting for all our fellow citizens who want to defend their nature, coasts, and common future."
CONCERNS EXPRESSED ABOUT ACCESS TO THE COASTS
It is stated that the planned piers with a capacity of 25 boats each in Gökgemile and Oyuktepe bays, which have received a "No Environmental Impact Assessment Required" decision, are planned to be built on coast areas currently used free of charge by citizens.
It is evaluated that, if the projects are realized, the public's opportunity to benefit from these bays free of charge could be significantly reduced.
Various environmental organizations have expressed concerns about the proposed 100-boat capacity pier project planned for Darboğaz Bay regarding its impact on the region's natural structure and coastal use.
