World Environment Day Celebrated with Events in Bodrum

As part of World Environment Day, a procession, workshops, and zero waste activities were organized in Bodrum. The municipality will carry out awareness activities throughout the year.

World Environment Day on June 5 was celebrated in Bodrum with events aimed at raising environmental awareness. The program prepared by the Bodrum Municipality Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate began with a procession from Milta Bodrum Marina to the Municipality Square. The activities continued with a festival held at Umurca Park on June 6. Citizens were informed about zero waste, recycling, and sustainable living through seed distribution, plant planting workshops, waste oil collection campaign, and environmental-themed games.

The procession organized on June 5 World Environment Day started at Milta Bodrum Marina and ended at the Municipality Square. Attendees included Muğla Metropolitan Municipality District Services 1st Region Department Head Kadriye Erkal Yıldırım, Bodrum Deputy Mayors Ercan Pehlivan and Kanat Hasan Özsert, Council Member and General Coordinator Emel Çakaloğlu, municipal department directors, staff, volunteers from Misgibi 1 Bodrum, students, and citizens.

The procession highlighted environmental sensitivity. Participants raised awareness for protecting Bodrum’s natural structure and spreading sustainable living habits in the city.

Zero waste and recycling festival at Umurca Park

The celebrations continued on Saturday, June 6 with an environmental festival at Umurca Park. The program was attended by Bodrum Deputy Mayors Tolga Karademir, Kanat Hasan Özsert, and Ercan Pehlivan, as well as department heads, students, and a large number of citizens.

Environmental-themed games, competitions, and workshops were held at the festival. Throughout the day, citizens were informed about recycling, zero waste applications, and sustainable living habits. The activities were especially supported with content aimed at increasing children’s environmental awareness.

New liquid oil given to citizens who brought waste oil

One of the highlights of the event was the waste liquid oil collection campaign carried out by the Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate. In the campaign organized to prevent environmental pollution, citizens who brought 4 liters of vegetable waste oil were gifted 1 liter of new liquid oil.

The Agricultural Services Directorate distributed seeds to support local production, while the Parks and Gardens Directorate held a plant planting workshop. The Cleaning Services Directorate also contributed to the program with a container and cleaning vehicle painting activity.

Mayor Mandalinci emphasizes sustainable Bodrum

Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci stated that protecting Bodrum’s nature is an ongoing responsibility every day. Mandalinci expressed that zero waste focused projects will continue for a cleaner and more sustainable Bodrum.

Mayor Mandalinci expressed his satisfaction in acting together with the public in line with environmental policies and thanked the citizens, non-governmental organizations, and environmental volunteers participating in the events. Municipal officials stated that climate change combat, environmental education, and zero waste awareness activities will continue throughout the year.
