Bodrum Municipality sets an example for Muğla in zero waste
Bodrum Municipality, which signed the first cooperation protocol for the deposit return system in Muğla, is among the municipalities leading the zero waste practices that are just beginning to spread in Turkey. The municipality, known for its environmentally friendly practices, aims to give new momentum to recycling efforts with its exemplary project.
In Bodrum, which was designated as a pilot region for zero waste efforts by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, a cooperation protocol was signed with the company providing the technology, operation, and logistics infrastructure of Turkey's deposit return system. With this protocol, Bodrum Municipality is also the first municipality to make a cooperation agreement for the installation of DOA machines in Muğla.
In the first phase of the implementation, which will start in July, after Bodrum center, DOA machines will be placed in Yalıkavak, Turgutreis, Mumcular, and Konacık-Bitez areas. Citizens will contribute to the recycling chain of waste by depositing PET, glass, and aluminum packaging with deposit labels into these machines.
The project, considered one of the pioneering local-scale applications of the deposit return system aimed to be expanded throughout Turkey, seeks to strengthen recycling culture, separate waste at the source, and contribute to zero waste goals. The project carried out by Bodrum Municipality, which stands out with exemplary environmental practices, is expected to serve as a model for other local administrations.
Municipal officials stated that they will steadfastly continue environmental investments towards a cleaner, more sustainable, and more livable Bodrum for future generations.
