Message from Mayor Mandalinci on Cabotage Day
Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, in his message on the 100th anniversary of the Cabotage Law, said, “Protecting the sea means protecting the future.”
Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci issued a message on July 1 Maritime and Cabotage Day. Mandalinci emphasized that owning the seas in the 100th year of the Cabotage Law means owning the future.
In his message, Mayor Mandalinci stated that they proudly celebrate the 100th anniversary of the enforcement of the Cabotage Law, which secures sovereignty rights in Turkish seas.
Mandalinci expressed that the Cabotage Law, which came into force on July 1, 1926, delivered the right to be the authority in Turkish seas to the nation, and said this regulation was one of the most important steps toward economic independence.
Highlighting that Cabotage Day holds a special meaning for Bodrum, a city built on the sea, Mandalinci said, "Anyone who wants to understand Bodrum must first understand the sea. The bays of this city as much as its streets, its ports as much as its squares are part of our memory. The sea is our livelihood, our culture, our history, and our future."
Mandalinci stated that thousands of people’s lives are shaped by the sea—from fishermen to captains, shipyard workers to those who labor in marine tourism—and emphasized the need to protect the seas and leave a livable blue homeland for future generations.
Mayor Mandalinci included the following in his message:
"The duty that falls to us today is to protect our seas, take care of our coasts, value the sweat of maritime workers, and leave a livable blue homeland for future generations, all while defending the right and heritage won a hundred years ago. Because the sea carries forward those who protect it into the future.
With these feelings and thoughts; I carry the responsibility of Bodrum's thousand-year relationship with the sea, and I congratulate all our captains, fishermen, ship people, shipyard workers, and maritime laborers who contribute to the development of our maritime industry on July 1 Maritime and Cabotage Day. Every effort that protects the blue is the most valuable legacy left to the Bodrum of tomorrow."
