Minister Bak promised! A giant sports facility is coming to Bodrum

Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Osman Aşkın Bak, who came to the city to review public investments carried out throughout Muğla and to carry out a series of programs, met with AK Party Bodrum District Chairman Seha Ergene in Marmaris district for a critical working meeting. The sports infrastructure need of Bodrum, which has long awaited a solution and which has become more pronounced along with recent sports successes, was brought to Minister Bak's agenda with a comprehensive vision file prepared by Ergene. The most concrete and pleasing result of the meeting, which aimed to produce permanent solutions to the inadequacy of facilities in the district, was the official support promise given at the ministry level for the 5,000 square meter multi-purpose indoor sports hall project planned to be built in Bodrum.

Teams Rising to Upper Leagues Cannot Play Matches in Their Own Cities

In the file presented by District Chairman Seha Ergene to Minister Osman Aşkın Bak, the stark contrast between the successes achieved by Bodrum athletes on the field and the existing facility infrastructure stood out as the most important headline. It was reminded that clubs representing Bodrum in different branches such as basketball, volleyball, handball, football, and sailing have risen to upper leagues in recent years and achieved great successes.

However, due to the existing halls in the district lacking the capacity, standards, and technical equipment suitable for high-level professional matches, it was emphasized that Bodrum teams have had to play their home matches outside their own city at certain times. Ergene stated that raising the infrastructure to a new level is essential to solidify the achieved successes and to provide young athletes access to qualified facilities.

A New Era for Bodrum: 5,000 Square Meter Multi-Purpose Hall

The 5,000 square meter indoor sports hall project, which was the focus of the meeting and received approval from Minister Dr. Osman Aşkın Bak, is aimed to be designed as a multi-purpose facility serving not just a single branch but all youth of the district. This investment, which will directly support the development of indoor sports such as basketball, volleyball, and handball, will meet the training needs of amateur sports clubs and enable children to access modern facilities.

Seha Ergene, who announced that he received a definite promise from Minister Bak for the realization of the project, stated that every stage of the investment—planning, land allocation, architectural design, and implementation—will be closely followed step by step by the district organization in coordination with the ministry.

Giant Campus Projects for Turgutreis, Mumcular, and Ortakent

It was stated that sports investments throughout Bodrum should not be limited to the district center but should also spread to neighborhoods with high population density, and the following additional project requests were submitted to the Ministry:

• Turgutreis Multi-Purpose Sports Hall: It was requested to establish a multi-purpose hall in Turgutreis, one of the areas with the highest child and youth population, where young people can regularly engage in sports.

• Turgutreis and Mumcular Youth Centers: Centers where sports, culture, arts, technology, and vocational training activities will be conducted to keep young people away from digital addiction and bad habits were requested.

• Ortakent and Yahşi Sports Base: It was proposed that approximately 60 decares of land in the Ortakent region, which has lost its pasture status, be allocated to the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports. A massive sports campus is planned to be established on this large area, including a multi-purpose indoor hall, swimming pool, training fields, and a neighborhood field for amateur clubs.

The last part of the news drew attention to Bodrum’s global potential in sports tourism. Thanks to its strong climate conditions, accommodation capacity, and brand value, it was emphasized that the new facilities to be built can host national and international sports camps and federation tournaments especially during the off-tourism seasons. Thus, it is aimed to diversify tourism, extend Bodrum’s economy across 12 months, and significantly support local tradespeople.
