'Europe Diploma' award went to Marmaris

Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü received the 'Europe Diploma' award given by the Council of Europe at a ceremony held in Strasbourg, France. The award, given to only 12 municipalities across Europe this year and the only one in Turkey, certified Marmaris' sustainability vision and international success.

Marmaris Municipality received the ‘Europe Diploma’ award given by the Council of Europe at a ceremony held at the Council of Europe building in Strasbourg, France. The Europe Diploma was presented to Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü and Chief of Staff and R&D Director Assoc. Dr. Didem Gamze Işıksal by Milo Konatar, Chair of the European Award Committee, at the ceremony. This award became an important indicator of Marmaris’ sustainability vision, international collaborations, and commitment to shared European values.

The prestigious award, given to only 12 municipalities across Europe this year, was awarded to only Marmaris Municipality from Turkey. The award was achieved as a result of Marmaris Municipality’s efforts in environment, urban transformation, sustainability, culture-art, and international relations. During the internationally conducted evaluation process, the projects and implementations carried out by the municipality were examined according to various criteria.

Speaking after the award ceremony, Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü stated that the Europe Diploma is an important achievement for the city, saying, "We have received the Europe Diploma awarded to our city by the Council of Europe. This prestigious award is a valuable reflection of our efforts to make Marmaris a city that meets international standards, sustainable and ready for the future. Our joint efforts gaining recognition internationally empower us and increase our responsibility towards the future."

Mayor Ünlü noted that the award is an important stage in the long evaluation process conducted with the Council of Europe, saying, "Our ultimate goal is the European Award. The next stages of the process will continue according to the Council of Europe’s criteria."
