5 different engines and 845 km range: The fifth generation new BMW X5 officially introduced

German luxury car manufacturer BMW officially introduced the fifth generation of its flagship SUV model X5. For the first time in its history, the new X5 will be produced with 5 different engine types including petrol, diesel, mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric (iX5). The new X5 is equipped with Neue Klasse technologies representing the brand's future. Later on, a hydrogen (iX5 Hydrogen) version will also be introduced.

Undoubtedly, the biggest surprise of the new generation is the fully electric first X5, the BMW iX5 60 xDrive. Featuring the brand's newly developed 6th generation eDrive battery technology with 120 mm high cylindrical cell for the first time in this model, it completely eliminates range anxiety.

• Maximum Electric Range: 845 km (WLTP)
• Charging Architecture / Speed: 800V ultra-fast charging support provides 350 km range with only 10 minutes of charging.
• Bi-directional Charging: The vehicle can act as a power source for homes or electric devices when needed, like a generator.

Hydrogen surprise and 5 Different Engines

As part of its "technology flexibility" strategy, BMW made the new X5 the world’s first luxury SUV model to offer 5 different drivetrain systems. While traditional petrol and diesel engines continue with 48V mild hybrid support, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options have increased their electric range.

Additionally, the iX5 Hydrogen (Hydrogen Fuel Cell) version to join the family later promises up to 750 kilometers of zero-emission driving with a single hydrogen tank thanks to the new flat hydrogen storage tank (BMW Hydrogen Flat Storage).

"Neue Klasse" design and a world first: Real slate cockpit

The monolithic and strong lines of the Neue Klasse philosophy are blended with classic X5 proportions in the exterior design. At the front, the vertically positioned "Iconic Glow" illuminated kidney grille and BMW’s first-ever use of the "double-X" light signature stand out. The "BMW Winglets" hidden door handles allow the doors to open with just a gentle touch thanks to electric assistance.

Inside, radical steps change the perception of luxury. BMW offers, as a world first, optional real slate and glass materials in cockpit trims. The panoramic screen stretching across the dashboard called "BMW Panoramic Vision", 3D Head-Up Display, and passenger screen transform the cabin into a completely digital living space.

Mass production of the new BMW X5 will begin in August 2026 at the Spartanburg factory in the USA. Internal combustion versions will be available from November 2026, while fully electric iX5 and plug-in hybrid versions will hit the roads in early 2027. The new BMW X5 is expected to arrive in Turkey by mid-2027.
