Traces of July 15 have been preserved as on the first day for 10 years

Despite 10 years having passed since the July 15, 2016 coup attempt by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), the traces of that night at the hotel in Marmaris where President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stayed and where the coup soldiers attempted an assassination are preserved as on the first day. Two rooms at the Turban Hotel located in Marmaris Siteler Neighborhood are preserved without any changes in accordance with the decision of the hotel owner Yazıcı Family.

The two rooms in the hotel raided by the coup soldiers immediately after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan left on the night of the coup attempt have been left as they are despite the passing 10 years. While bullet marks are still on the walls in the rooms where the incident took place, handcuffs and prayer rug belonging to the martyr police officer Mehmet Çetin from the Presidential Protection Department staff are also kept in the same room.

To ensure that the night of July 15 is not forgotten by future generations, no renovation has been made to the preserved rooms to date. The rooms, where not even a single nail has been hammered, are only open to visits by members of the press.

Traces were not erased in the hotel where the call for democracy was made

As in all parts of Turkey, Marmaris marked one of the most critical points of the July 15 coup attempt in history. The assassination attempt by the coup soldiers against the hotel where President Erdoğan spent his vacation ended in failure, and the traces of what happened that night continue to be preserved at the hotel where President Erdoğan invited the nation to take to the squares to defend democracy.

The walls hit by bullets, the areas where the clashes took place, and some personal belongings from that night are preserved as on the first day to ensure July 15 is not erased from memories.

The names of the martyred police officers are kept alive in Marmaris

The names of police officer Nedip Cengiz Eker, who was martyred during the clash with the coup soldiers in Marmaris on the night of July 15, and protection police officer Mehmet Çetin, who was martyred at the hotel while serving in President Erdoğan's protection team, are also kept alive in Marmaris.

The streets on both sides of the Marmaris July 15 Democracy Square, which also features photos of our martyred police officers, were named after the martyred police officers Nedip Cengiz Eker and Mehmet Çetin.
