Environmental cleaning was carried out on the Fethiye Peninsula within the scope of Penal Staff Week. The work attended by the personnel and convicts of Seydikemer Eşen Open Penal Institution both contributed to nature and served as an example of social responsibility.
Within the scope of the Penal Institutions Personnel Week activities, a meaningful environmental cleanup was carried out on the Fethiye Peninsula. In the event supported by the Fethiye Municipality, the personnel of the Seydikemer Eşen Open Penal Institution and the convicts in the institution took to the field for nature.
Environmental Cleaning from Seydikemer Eşen Open Penal Institution in the Peninsula
While 20 convicts and 10 staff participated in the event, a comprehensive work was carried out along the coastline and surrounding areas for the cleaning of the peninsula. Institution director Mehmet Mesut Karar stated that the event is important both in terms of environmental awareness and social consciousness.
The decision stated that a part of the peninsula was already clean and said, “We also wanted to contribute to the protection of nature by cleaning the remaining part. Our goal is to achieve a cleaner environment.”
Karar, who also mentioned the social and production-focused activities carried out in open penal institutions, reminded that convicts participate in greenhouses, workshops, and various production areas within the institution. He also stated that sports and social activities are supported by the decision of the education board.
Karar, emphasizing that such activities are an important rehabilitation process for inmates, stated, "Thanks to these activities, inmates neither break their ties with the outside world nor prepare for the transition between prison and civilian life in a healthier way."
