Selver Hatice Kabak, Climate Change and Zero Waste Manager of Fethiye Municipality, who gave the opening speech of the program, emphasized that protecting the environment is an urgent responsibility. Kabak, who started her speech by asking various questions to the participants, stressed that people can stay away from phones, televisions, or technological devices for a while, but life is not possible without clean water, clean air, and a healthy environment. Saying, "There are alternatives for many things in our lives, but there is no alternative to the planet we live on," Kabak stated that soil, air, water, seas, and forests are the most important heritage to be left to future generations. Kabak mentioned that for about 20 years they have been conducting trainings, awareness studies, workshops, and various projects on environmental issues, and especially organize competitions to develop environmental awareness among students.

Kabak, stating that instead of approaching environmental problems with a pessimistic outlook, they focus on producing solutions and growing hopes, emphasized that protecting the environment starts with small habits. Kabak noted that a waste battery collected by a student, a short film made by a young person, or environmental awareness instilled by a teacher lays the foundation for major transformations, adding that students and schools who place in competitions exemplify this best. Kabak thanked all institutions, teachers, students, and citizens by saying, “Protecting the environment is not just doing good to nature, but actually investing in ourselves, our city, and our future.”
