Beşkaza Culture and Solidarity Platform President Devrim Karakuş: 'Yörük Culture Should Be Carried to the Future Not in Tents, But with Living Traditions'
Karakuş said, “We care about the Taurus Mountains. We care about the Yörük tent. More importantly, we care about smoke rising from that tent. We want a tent not dry, but one that contains life and where traditions continue.”
Emphasizing that they always stand by associations striving to keep Yörük and Turkmen culture alive, Karakuş stated, “As Beşkaza Culture Association, we support all associations working in this field scientifically, administratively, and legally. We try to pave their way. Our understanding is clear; Yörük associations will keep Yörükness alive, and the Yörüks themselves will freely continue their culture.”
Stating that Yayla Çobanisa's longstanding tradition serves as an example, Karakuş said that the local people protect the plateaus, pastures, land, and water inherited from their ancestors. He expressed that this struggle is carried out with significant sacrifices and emphasized that protecting this cultural heritage holds value for everyone.
Saying that families should participate in events with their children to pass the festivals on to future generations, Karakuş added, “If we are to carry this culture to the future, we must come to the festivals with our children and spouses. The survival of this tradition is only possible by the new generations witnessing it.”
Concluding his speech, Karakuş thanked the press members, saying, “Without you, these would not be heard, seen, or known. Let everything about Yörükness from past to present be known, seen, kept alive, and passed to future generations.”
