Enthusiastic welcome in his hometown for the national canoeist Karahan who made history

National canoeist Rahmi Kaan Karahan from Köyceğiz district of Muğla was welcomed with great enthusiasm in his hometown after achieving a historic success at the ICF 2026 Youth and U23 Sprint Canoe World Championship held in Halifax, Canada.

Karahan, who became the world champion in the 500 meters category at the championship, also won 3rd place in the 200 meters and 1000 meters races, earning a total of 1 gold and 2 bronze medals. The national athlete also achieved the distinction of being the first athlete in Turkish canoeing history to win a medal at the World Championship.

Magnificent welcome at Dalaman Airport

The welcome ceremony organized by the Köyceğiz District Governorship took place at Dalaman Airport International Terminal. Citizens arriving at the terminal with Turkish flags enthusiastically welcomed the national athlete.

Welcomed with drums and zurna, Rahmi Kaan Karahan was carried on shoulders amidst shows of affection, receiving intense interest from the public as the world champion.

Arrived in Köyceğiz accompanied by a convoy

Following the ceremony at the airport, the world champion proceeded to Köyceğiz with a convoy of vehicles, and was welcomed with applause and cheers at the Athlete Training Center in the district.

Karahan's return to his hometown was celebrated almost like a festival with the participation of athletes, students, and citizens.
