Menteşe Anatolian High School students experienced particle physics on site during the CERN trip and met with scientists.
Menteşe Anatolian High School students had the opportunity to observe theoretical knowledge on site during the educational trip organized to CERN, one of Europe's largest scientific research centers. Within the scope of the program held in Switzerland, students listened to the basic concepts of particle physics from the world's leading researchers, while also experiencing hands-on experiments in interactive science areas. The trip transformed into a comprehensive learning experience beyond the classroom environment for students who had the chance to closely observe the impact of scientific research ranging from daily life to the secrets of the universe.

Students met with a Turkish scientist during the CERN trip
One of the most remarkable parts of the program was the interview held with Turkish scientist Prof. Dr. Kerem Cankoçak, who works at CERN. Welcoming the students, Cankoçak shared comprehensive information about the international research conducted at CERN. In his presentation, he covered key modern physics topics such as the Higgs boson, dark matter, the relationship between matter and antimatter, the concept of entropy, Michael Faraday's electromagnetism studies, and Albert Einstein's theory of relativity with understandable examples.
Emphasizing that scientific discoveries contribute not only to the world of physics but also form an important part of humanity's effort to understand the universe, Cankoçak stated. During the interview, students had the opportunity to ask their curious questions and gained direct information about how international scientific projects are conducted, thereby closely getting to know the research culture.

CERN Science Gateway combined students’ scientific curiosity with practical experience
After the interview, students toured the interactive exhibition areas within the CERN Science Gateway. Throughout the visit, many scientific concepts learned in the classroom were examined practically through simulations, experiment stations, and digital applications explaining particle physics.
Students observed firsthand how scientific experiments are designed, the phases large-scale research projects go through, and the working systems of advanced technology laboratories. Thanks to interactive contents, students experienced complex physics topics in a clearer way and saw that science is not just theoretical but a lived experience.
