Students of the Vocational School Forestry Department in Köyceğiz district of Muğla had the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in the field through field studies carried out within the scope of Forestry Practices, Afforestation and Nursery Techniques, and Fire Ecology courses.
Under the coordination of Vocational School Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hatice Ulusoy, practical training on land preparation in afforestation areas, seedling planting techniques, and maintenance work was imparted to the students by Köyceğiz Forest Management Directorate Central Chief Zekai Atakan Gülbüz. During nursery visits, seed sowing, seedling production, irrigation, and maintenance processes were examined on site and detailed information about the production stages was provided.
In the field studies carried out within the scope of the Fire Ecology course, the effects of forest fires on the ecosystem, natural regeneration processes after fires, and the characteristics of fire-adapted plant species were discussed. Students had the opportunity to observe and evaluate ecological changes by examining areas affected by fire. During the practices, topics such as sustainable forestry, conservation of biological diversity, combating erosion, and the importance of afforestation against climate change were also evaluated. Students reinforced their theoretical knowledge with practical experience by seeing applications they may encounter in their professional lives on site./İHA
